Fast Diets - Get the Facts, Forget the Fads

No wonder the majority of the people in this country are over weight. Everyone is looking at these lose weight fast diets, and some say eat this while others say no eat this, no wonder we are all confused. After reading the advertisements for the most popular diet plans one is left not knowing if carbs are good or should be avoided totally.

Should we avoid all fats or just trans fat, and by the way I thought all vegetables were good for you, but not according to these fad diets. What I found to be true is all these diets that seem to focus on one food group, are unrealistic long term weight lose programs. You should be looking at the food pyramid to decide what foods you should be eating for a healthy diet.

As you can see from the food pyramid, fruits and vegetables is where its at. When your looking for something for the sweet tooth, look grab some fruit. While fruits contain sugar, it is all natural and the extra vitamins you get from fruit compared to say candy, makes them a healthier choice by far. Some fast diets say fruits have to many calories, but the body needs calories to survive, and calories from fruit if replacing bad calories are a good thing. The fiber found in fruits also help the digestive system process food, and makes you feel fuller longer. If you really want to eat healthier without some of the added calories found in fruit, then vegetables is the way to go. Both have the added fiber that should help you eat less overall.

The next food group, meat is exploited by both low-carb and fat free lose weight fast diets. One says eat more and one says eat less. The fact is you need meat to build and maintain muscles. It is the proteins found in meat that your body needs, and over abundance of fats that it could do with less. The best meat to eat as far as being healthy for you, would be to eat fish, because of its naturally low fat content. If you are like me and not much into fish, then lean cuts of meat are your best choice.

Now lets take a look at the food group that has taken a beating thanks to some well known lose weight fast diet plans, and that's carbs. Like the other food groups are bodies need carbs and here's why. It is true that pasta and breads will turn to fat, when you eat more than the body needs, but that is true with any food group. The truth is Grains help the body maintain a higher energy level if the correct portions are eaten. If you take carbs out of your diet as suggested by some diet plans, you are going to find out it isn't healthy long term and when you go off the diet your going to gain weight faster.

The next food group has also been demonized by some weight lose programs, but the truth is you need dairy products for healthy bones. You don't need the added fat that some of these products have so that is where you need to be educated. Just because a label say low fat, does not mean it is the best choice. Low fat only means there is less fat than normal, so don't be fooled. You can get all the calcium you need for healthy bones, without the calories or fat, by selecting skim milk dairy products. I can hear you now saying I might as well drink water! I promise you that once you drink skim milk for a year you'll never go back to whole milk because you won't like the taste.

The one thing you need to remember when dieting, is you need to eat. You should never skip meals, and in reality you should be eating more often. For your body to be healthy it needs the nutrients provided by the foods we mention above, so don't ever deprive you body of what it needs. I have provided you with a list of good foods, and if you take advantage of this information you should have no problem losing weight without turning to one of those lose weight fast diets that don't work long term.
